FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: absolute height of the river source is determined in the mudflow basin. Vertical zonality of mudflow basin location (high mountains, middle mountains, low mountains) and its morphometric characteristics (catchment area, reduced length and average river body slope) are determined. Using satellite images or aerial photography results, presence of glaciers, glacier-dammed or morainic lakes, as well as "dead ice" at the mudflow basin area is determined. Depending on the vertical zonality of the mudflow basin location and presence of glaciers, glacier-dammed or morainic lakes, as well as "dead ice", genetic type of possible mudflow occurrence (glacial, glacial-rain, rain or snow-rain) is determined. Average slope and length of the selected portion of mudflow channel are determined. Taking obtained data into account, values of one-time maximum possible volumes of solid mud-flow cones into the river body and into the selected portion of mudflow channel are calculated.
EFFECT: increased applicability, increased estimation accuracy and operational efficiency, reduced labour costs.
