Invention represents a method for assessing genotypes of buckwheat depending on intensity of transpiration, which involves measuring the intensity of transpiration using a measuring chamber; transpiration is measured using the 3 leaf from the top generative part of the main stem on the 10 day after the beginning of blooming on intact plants between 9:00 and 10:00.

EFFECT: reduced labor input, higher objectivity of evaluation and efficiency of extraction of a large number of initial material of valuable sources of high and low intensity of transpiration for selection.
