FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: invention represents a method for selection of winter wheat genotypes with increased content of protein and gluten in grain as per efficiency of water use, consisting in calculation of ratio of photosynthesis intensity to intensity of transpiration, including measurement of intensity of photosynthesis and transpiration intensity of flag leaves, which is carried out in the grain filling phase from 8:00 to 10:00 pm local time using a portable gas analyzer GFS-3000 FL, measuring chamber of which is attached to a plant leaf, wherein the illumination mode is set to 1,000 mcmol/m2s in the measuring chamber, wherein genotypes with high content of protein and gluten grains are considered to be varieties and selection samples with the water use efficiency value being 30 % more than the average value of the estimated sample.

EFFECT: using this method, it is possible to carry out in the early stages of selection (selection nurseries of 1st and 2nd years) with high accuracy and minimum time expenditures in field conditions a mass assessment (for 3 hours of 50–60 samples) of winter wheat genotypes according to efficiency.
