FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: gas distribution unit is capable of changing the amount of engine valve lift. The gas distribution unit comprises a base cam element (10) disposed on the cam shaft (S). The base element (10) of the cam rotates together with the cam shaft (S). The protruding cam element (12) is movable relative to the cam base element (10). The protruding cam element (12) includes a main cam part and a pushing part. The pushing part is displaced from the location of the main cam part. The resilient member (18) is disposed between the base cam element (10) and the protruding cam element (12). The locking mechanism is designed to fix the protruding cam element on the base cam element. The protruding cam element is movable relative to the base cam element between the first position and the second position. The pushing part of the protruding cam element is in a protruding position relative to the base cam element. The main part of the cam is in a non-protruding position relative to the base cam element (10) when the protruding cam element (12) is in the first position. The pushing part is in a non-protruding position relative to the base cam element (10), and the main cam part is in a protruding position relative to the base cam element (10) when the protruding cam element (12) is in the second position. The protruding cam element (12) has the possibility to move from the first position towards the second position when the protruding cam element (12) is displaced towards the first position by the elastic element (18) and the pushing part is pushed by the engine valve or pushing element connected to the engine valve. The protruding cam element is configured to lock the cam on the base element (10) by the locking mechanism when the protruding cam element (12) is in the second position.

EFFECT: preventing of the protruding cam element jerk relative to the base cam element.
