SUBSTANCE: method of cleaning hydrocarbon media from H2S and/or mercaptans, in which the hydrocarbon feed is treated with a cleaning composition containing an aqueous solution of an alkali metal nitrite, a water soluble amine and/or ammonia or a mixture of a water soluble amine and/or ammonia and a strong inorganic base in the presence of variable valence metals, in the absence of oxygen, and metals of variable valency are used in a high degree of oxidation.
EFFECT: elimination of the problem of entrainment of fumes of light fractions and environmental problems of utilization of exhaust air during the purification of oil or oil fractions.
