SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas comprising a noble metal; oxide comprising as a base material and the aluminium and zirconium, wherein the zirconium oxide is from 0.1 to 20 wt % when the total mass of the base material A by weight of the oxide is 100 wt % and an oxide which contains as main material In at least one element selected from the group consisting of silicon, cerium, praseodymium and lanthanum; wherein the ratio of the base materials of (a) from 0.01 to 8 wt %, if the base material B is silicon, (b) from 0.01 to 2 wt %, if the base material B is cerium (c) from 0.01 or more to less than 2 wt %, if the base material B represents praseodymium, and (d) from 0.01 to 10 wt %, if the base material B is lanthanum, with the proviso, that if two or more elements are contained as the main material B. It is also disclosed, that the method of purifying an exhaust gas comprises the use of a catalyst for purification of the exhaust gas.
