FIELD: machine engineering.
SUBSTANCE: horizontal piston compressor comprises a housing with a cylinder and a piston inserted into the cylinder with the possibility of reciprocating movement. The piston has an inner chamber, first and second end walls. The piston and cylinder form a compression chamber to compress the gas. The first end wall and a throttle valve arranged adapted to supply gas from the compression chamber into the inner chamber during the compression stroke of the piston. The throttle valve passes through the body portion having a plurality of flow passages through which gas can flow from the throttle to the valve seat area. Gas bearing supports the piston relative to the housing. The gas bearing comprises a hole for supplying the gas from the inner chamber into the space between the piston and the cylinder so that the gas supplied into the space, creating an upward pressure on the piston. The valve may be spring biased, and a choke restrictor insert can be located between the valve and the compression chamber.
EFFECT: reduced wear of piston components during operation.
