FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a nanostructured catalyst system for removing mercaptans and/or hydrogen sulfide from hydrocarbon gas mixtures comprising: (a) one catalytic substance. This catalytic material is a metal in elemental form or a metal oxide, or a metal sulphide which is selected from the group consisting of Na, V, Mn, Mo, Cd, W, (b) a nanostructured substrate. The substrate material is selected from the group consisting of single-walled carbon nanotubes, double-walled carbon nanotubes, multilayer carbon nanotubes, nanoporous carbon, carbon nanofibres or mixtures thereof, in which one catalyst substance is applied to the nanostructured substrate in an amount of 0.05% (wt/wt) to 9% (wt/wt) relative to the total wt of the catalytic system. This catalytic system does not contain a second or any other catalytic substance. The invention also relates to a process for removing mercaptans and hydrogen sulfide from gas streams using the claimed catalytic system.
EFFECT: simplification of the hydrocarbon desulfurization process and cost reduction of the process.
