FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a catalyst on a carrier intended for selective oxidation of sulphur compounds in the residual gas from Claus conversion process or in flows with equivalent content of elementary sulphur or sulphur dioxide (SO2). Invention also relates to a method of producing a catalyst and method for selective oxidation of sulphur compounds to elementary sulphur using the catalyst. Catalyst consists of a carrier and catalytically active material. Carrier contains aluminium oxide, silicon dioxide, mixed oxide of aluminium and silicon or mixtures thereof. Active material consists of cobalt oxide, which is deposited on the carrier. Content of cobalt in the catalyst makes 0.05-2 wt% per total weight of the carrier material. Catalyst has specific surface area of 10-150 m2/g, porosity 0.05-10 cm3/g, average pore diameter of 2-50 nm, crushing strength 29.43 N.
EFFECT: technical result: higher activity and selectivity of the catalyst.
