FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: acidic gases containing H2S are burnt in a furnace in the presence of oxygen. The stream of combustion gases formed, containing H2S and SO2, is taken to the catalytic processing stage where, under Claus reaction conditions, reaction gases which contain sulphur are formed. Sulphur is separated from the reaction gases by condensation, and the stream of tail gases from the Claus process are taken to the stage for extracting sulphur through direct reduction on a reduction catalyst. After separation of sulphur, tail gases from direct reduction mainly containing H2S and the largest amount of SO2 are taken to the stage for biological extraction of sulphur. The stage for biological extraction of sulphur comprises an absorption unit, a biological oxidation unit and a sulphur separation unit. Tail gases in the absorption unit are brought into contact with an unsaturated solvent to obtain desulphurated tail gases and a concentrated solvent. The concentrated solvent is taken for biological oxidation with oxygen and sulphur bacteria, from Beggiatoa, Thiothrix, Thiobacillus families to obtain sulphur.
EFFECT: more efficient sulphur extraction, reduced expenses.
