FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process of obtaining 4,4'-(propanediamide) sodium dibenzoate of the formula I , which can be used in medicine as a potential antiatherosclerotic, antialcoholic, antioxidant and antihypertensive agent. The method consists in reacting p-aminobenzoic acid with sodium carbonate in a molar ratio of 2:1 with heating to 50-60°C in an aprotic solvent medium (for example, N,N-dimethylformamide or dimethylsulfoxide). After this, a stoichiometric amount of malonic ether is added to the resulting sodium salt of p-aminobenzoic acid, the reaction mixture is heated to a temperature of 150-155°C, the volatile fraction is distilled off and the desired product is isolated.
EFFECT: method allows to reduce the number of stages and does not require the use of toxic reagents.
