FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: device contains a cylindrical protective housing, inside of which a fast neutron source, a protective screen, a near and far detector of thermal neutrons are sequentially placed along its axis. Far thermal neutrons detector is located at a greater distance from fast neutrons source than near thermal neutrons detector. As a fast neutrons source, a 2.5-MeV neutron generator is used. The distance between 2.5-MeV neutron generator and near thermal neutrons detector does not exceed 15 centimeters, and the distance between 2.5-MeV neutron generator and far thermal neutrons detector is at least 35 centimeters.

EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of neutron porosity measurements due to emission of neutrons into the rock formation with energy substantially lower than the energy of neutrons emitted by AmBe source.
