FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coated substrate comprising: A) an electroconductive composite substrate comprising a resin matrix reinforced with fibers, and B) a cured coating layer electrophoretically applied to, at least, a portion of the substrate surface, wherein the cured coating layer is deposited from the composition of the curable electrodepositable coating comprising: (1) a resin component comprising a cationic or anionic resin with active hydrogen, comprising acrylic, polyester, polyurethane and/or a polyepoxide polymer; and (2) a hardener. The invention also relates to the method for coating a plastic electroconductive substrate, including electrophoretic deposition on the substrate of the curable electrodepositable coating composition described above, and heating the coated substrate to a temperature of less than 250°F for a time period sufficient to cure the electrodepositable coating on the substrate.
