FIELD: oil and gas industry.
SUBSTANCE: coating composition against penetration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) comprises at least one epoxy-functional polymer, at least one metal-containing compound in amount sufficient to interact with H2S formimg metal sulphide and at least one curing agent. Method for protecting the steel substrate from penetration of H2S includes steps for providing a steel substrate, applying the coating composition on the steel substrate, and curing the composition to form a coating resistant against H2S penetration. In preferred variants, the epoxy-functional polymer is glycidylated and selected from glycidyl novolac or cresol novolac resins, glycidylated polyamines or mixtures thereof. The metal-containing compound is selected from oxide, carbonate, sulfate, phosphate, carboxylate of Fe (II), Fe (III) or Zn (II) or mixtures thereof.
EFFECT: increased protection and stability of steel substrate against penetration of H2S.
