FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: method includes photographing the observed object and its surrounding background in grayscale by a digital camera, followed by calculation of the average brightness values of the observed object and the background and calculation of the contrast between them. The photographing of the observed object and background formation is linked to the time and place of determining the maximum range of the object's exploration using the observation device. The area of the background formation is bounded by a rectangle with dimensions twice that of the largest height and width of the observed object with its centering relative to the observed object.

EFFECT: increased reliability, reducted time and labour intensity of measurements.
