SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a microparticle comprising a polymeric material, wherein the polymeric material consists of a thermoplastic composition comprising a continuous phase that includes a matrix polymer, and wherein the polymeric microinclusion additive and the nanoactive addition polymer are dispersed in a continuous phase in the form of discrete domains, wherein the material further comprises a porous network that contains a variety of nanopores and micropores. Also methods for disease treatment, control and prevention are described, comprising administration of a microparticle containing an active agent and an absorbent article containing a microparticle. The porous structure of the microparticle can be formed without the need for complex techniques and chemical compositions of solvents conventionally used to form porous microparticles.
EFFECT: microparticles are characterized by multimodal pore size distribution, which can provide a number of different advantages depending on specific application.
