FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method includes processing the spent radioactive IER with a deactivating solution and purifying the deactivating solution from radionuclides. The processing of radioactive ion-exchange resins is carried out with a deactivating solution of alkali metal salts with a concentration of 3 to 5 mol/l at a pH of 8 to 12 with the addition of an oxidizer with simultaneous exposure to resin by ultrasonic vibrations with an intensity of 2 to 5 W/cm2 and a frequency of 22 to 44 kHz, at a temperature of 50 to 80°C.
EFFECT: complete deactivation of ion-exchange resins and minimization of the amount of secondary radioactive waste generated.
