SUBSTANCE: embodiments of the system and method for an access point initiated by an access point by propagation time in a wireless network are described. The network-initiated, accurate, scalable ToF solution for indoor and navigation positioning is designed for environments where signals from global navigation satellite systems are not available. ToF between the initiating access point (AP) and the responding device is measured and converted into a distance by dividing the measured time by two and multiplying it by the speed of light. The AP, not the client device, fully manages time and manages the general procedure for locating inside the room. The precise timing section of the protocol initiated by the ToF positioning access point is a symmetric protocol that the ToF measurement can be easily switched between the client device and the AP. In some embodiments, the request message initiating an accurate time measurement by the access point initiates the ToF measurement and the exchange of location calculation messages between the initiating AP and the responding device.

EFFECT: accuracy of the ToF positioning navigation inside the premises, which the network access point can control and for which client initiation, interruptions, interventions are not required and which do not require the transfer of responses.
