FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: ion modifier can be used to modify a portion of the ions that enter the drift chamber through a gate controlling the ion input to the drift chamber. The controller that is associated with the ion modifier is configured to control the ion modifier to select a portion of the ions to be modified and selects this portion of ions based on the previous reaction to other ions obtained from the same sample. These other ions correspond, for example, to ions that are associated with a peak that occurred during a previous measurement with a spectrometer.

EFFECT: simplification of identification of sample molecules.
