FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: optically pumped laser includes an optically coupled pump radiation source, an active material, a resonator, an input window for introducing pumping radiation, and an output window for outputting radiation to the outside. The laser also comprises an active material cooler and a pressure module configured to uniaxially compress the active material. The active material is a single crystal silicon containing a donor impurity of magnesium with a concentration of 1014-1016 cm-3. The resonant surface of the active material can perform the resonator function.
EFFECT: providing the possibility of reducing the threshold pumping power and achieving a continuous laser generation mode in the terahertz frequency range.
