FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of controlling the subcriticality of spent nuclear fuel is to create a computational model of the repository and to determine the fragment of the storage facility with the maximum multiplying properties, numerically solving the conditionally critical equation. Computational simulation is performed for the center tam of the selected interval. The distance r0 is determined between the source and the detector, in which the minimum value of the damping decrement is equal to the asymptotic value of the damping decrement α0. At the minimum of this dependence, the experimental value α0 is determined. Subcriticality is monitored by the quantitative reactivity value ρ.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the nuclear safety of the containment basins by increasing the reliability of subcriticality control by directly measuring the asymptotic value of the damping decrement and determining the quantitative value of the reactivity value.
