FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: AC power source is connected to the utility lines, an alternating test signal is generated, the estimated route of the utility line and the location of initial measuring point are determined. Next, a sensor unit is installed. It comprises of at least one electromagnetic field sensor at the first measuring point, by means of which the electromagnetic field strength is measured at the first point in each sensor of the unit. Then, with the help of a switch, the electromagnetic field strength and above ground level are recorded at the first measuring point in each sensor of the unit. The sensor unit is moved to a random measuring point by known distances in, at least, one coordinate. The electromagnetic field strength is measured in each sensor at the point. By means of the switch, the value of the electromagnetic field strength in each sensor and the change in coordinates, by which the electromagnetic field sensor unit is moved from the first measuring point, are recorded at the point. The operation is repeated for a required number of times, depending on the specified measurement accuracy, characterized by the number of utility lines and electromagnetic field sensors in the unit. The burial depth and the distance down to at least one utility line are determined based on the solution of nonlinear equations in accordance with the expressions for the strength of the electromagnetic field.
EFFECT: increasing accuracy and reducing the labour input of measurements.
