FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment and can be used to search for passage and depth of communication, in particular cable lines, pipelines of water supply and heating network, gas and oil pipelines located underground. Method includes determining approximate route of communication laying and installation place of sensor unit above communication, after that: installing sensor unit containing at least three electromagnetic field sensors in previously determined location, and determining the electromagnetic field strength values at the sensor unit mounting point on each electromagnetic field sensor and the height from the ground level to the first electromagnetic field sensor axis in the sensor unit; determining the angle at which the track axis is located relative to the vertical axis of the sensor unit in a plane perpendicular to the communication axis; determining value of conditional depth of communication; depth of communication and distance to it are determined on the basis of certain values: intensity of electromagnetic field, conditional depth of communication and angle, under which there is axis of route relative to vertical axis of sensor unit in plane perpendicular to axis of communication.
EFFECT: increased accuracy and reduced laboriousness of measurements.
