FIELD: food industry.
SUBSTANCE: use of a combination of whey protein, leucine and at least ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid selected from the group: eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, eicosatetraenoic acid and docosapentaenoic acid, is proposed to improve muscular function in a mammal. Alternatively, the nutrient composition for improvement of muscular function in a mammal contains at least 18 en% of proteinaceous material, wherein the said proteinaceous material comprises whey protein; at least 12 wt % of leucine to the weight of the total protein material and a lipid fraction. At that, the lipid fraction contains at least ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid selected from the group of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, eicosatetraenoic acid and docosapentaenoic acid.
EFFECT: invention provides prevention of a decline in muscle function due to or developing due to aging, disease, disorder, medication or trauma.
