FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: macrofibre for a composite product comprises a plurality of substantially unidirectional inner fibres, each having a final cross-sectional dimension of the inner fibre less than about 100 nanometres; the inner fibres are surrounded by a matrix material. The method of manufacturing of a macrofibre is also described.
EFFECT: invention provides the creation of high-strength composite transparent products having a fibre configuration providing improved optical quality with reduced optical distortion.
