FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: applying the multi-layer coating. First, bottom layer of titanium nitride is applied. Next, an intermediate layer of nitride of the titanium compound and silicon is applied at a ratio, wt %: Titanium 97.9-98.5, silicon 1.5-2.1. Then a top layer from a nitride of titanium, molybdenum and silicon compounds at a ratio, wt %: 93.1-95.0 titanium, 1.0-1.4 silicon, 4.0-5.5 molybdenum - is applied. Layers coating is made with three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium and silicon alloy and arranged in opposition, second cathode is made of titanium and arranged opposite the first one while third cathode is made of chromium and titanium and arranged there between. The lower layer is applied using a third cathode, the intermediate layer using first and third cathodes, and the top layer using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: higher cutting tool efficiency.
