SUBSTANCE: concentrations (c1) of hydrogen gas are detected at a plurality of locations (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d). Concentrations (c2) of at least one additional gaseous component indicative of feces in the said space (1) are detected. Fecal emission is determined to take place at the location (2a), where the detected concentration (c1) of the hydrogen gas exceeds the first threshold value (cT1) for a predetermined period, provided that the detected concentration (c2) of the said additional gaseous component also exceeds the predetermined second threshold value (cT2) at the location (2a). The number of locations for detection of at least one additional gaseous component in space (1) is less than the number of locations for hydrogen gas detection in this space (1). The system comprises a plurality of first gas sensors (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) configured to detect the concentration (c1) of hydrogen gas, and one additional gas sensor (4; 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) detecting the concentration (c2), at least one additional gas component indicative of feces in the said space (1).

EFFECT: group of inventions provides accurate and reliable determination of the gas constituents of the fecal emission, allows to exclude the effect of intestinal gases emission due to the presence of sensors for detection of hydrogen gas and one additional gas component in the claimed quantitative ratio, as well as detection of gases concentration for the predetermined period.
