FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, namely to a flow battery system, which has at least one elements block and at least a pair of storage containers or tanks connected to this at least one elements block. Each of the storage containers is made from a rigid (for example, metal) casing; it contains a facing attached directly to the inner walls of the rigid casing forming a fence made with the possibility to keep a liquid electrolyte in the form of an anolyte or a catholyte. In the assembled configuration, the metal casing of the storage container provides the secondary shell, while the facing attached directly to it provides the primary shell. The flow battery system includes a failure detection system made with the possibility to detect a failure or a leak and to determine a location of such a leak in the flow battery system, for instance, in the storage container or in the exact section of the storage container.
EFFECT: increased reliability and energy intensity of the flow batteries system.
