FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method includes loading flux into furnace with heated copper-nickel converter matte containing cobalt and iron, melting the flux and purging converter matte with oxygen-containing purging. As a flux, a mixture of B2O3 and CaO in an amount of 30-35% of the mass of iron and cobalt in the converter matte at a ratio B2O3/CaO, equal to 4-9. Purging is carried out up to complete oxidation of iron and cobalt with their conversion into flux.
EFFECT: increased cobalt recovery.
