SUBSTANCE: method comprises receiving (202) a reference image (Iref) of reference tire surface area, in substantially defect-free, providing (203) a sample tire to be analyzed, illuminating (204) a portion of the sample tire surface with an inclined light source, acquiring (205) a sample image (Icmp) of an illuminated portion of the reference tire surface, extracting (207) the edges from the reference image and from the sample image generating an edge sample image (Iref_edg), containing edges included in the reference image and the edge sample image (Icmp_edg), containing edges included in the sample image, expanding (208) the edges of the sample image (Iref_edg) and generating an extended edge reference image therefrom (Iref_edg_dl), comparing (209) the edge sample image (Icmp_edg) with the extended edge reference image (Iref_edg_dl) and generating the edge image (Iedg_pd) of possible defects containing edges which are included in the edge image and not included in the extended edge reference image, and comprises identification of possible defects of edges included in the edge image of possible defects.
EFFECT: improved reliability of tire monitoring.
