FIELD: motor vehicle industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to automotive industry. Method and the corresponding defect detection device on the tire surface comprise: execution of tire (200); obtaining a digital image comprising a structure comprising portions displaying linear pattern elements on a surface portion and displaying possible elongated defects, wherein said parts of the structure have a corresponding orientation; execution of a pattern model on a surface area in which each pixel is associated with a first index characterizing whether the pixel belongs to a part of the picture or not, and a second index characterizing at least a local orientation of a portion of the pattern passing through said pixel; calculation – for each pixel from the structure – the third index characterizing the orientation of the part of the structure passing through the specified pixel, and determination – for each pixel from the structure having the corresponding pixel in the pattern model belonging to the pattern-whether the specified pixel belongs from the structure to the alleged defect based on the comparison of the third index and the second index, put in correspondence with the corresponding pixel in the model of the figure.

EFFECT: control of the tire in less time and with reduced costs.
