SUBSTANCE: method includes forming the preform by filling the metal shell with a powder containing the components of the superconducting compound, deforming the resulting preform by drawing and/or rolling to a finite size and heat-treating it, characterized in that a powder is used, which is a mixture of Mg: B=(1.01-1.3):2 consisting of a magnesium powder with a particle size of not more than 100 mcm and an amorphous or crystalline boron powder with a particle size of not more than 10 mcm, and heat treatment is carried out on a finite size conductor at 600-790 °C for 1-20 hours.
EFFECT: producing a finite size of a superconducting core in a conductor, with a composition close to the stoichiometric one, which makes it possible to increase the current-carrying capacity of superconductors based on magnesium diboride.
