FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method of producing glycerol ethers (triglycerides) of medium-chain monocarboxylic fatty acids, which consists of the reaction of a free fatty acid precursor and glycerin in the presence of a catalyst under partial vacuum. The method of producing triglycerides of medium-chain fatty acid comprises the steps of: a) mixing glycerol with three molar equivalents or an excess of the said medium-chain fatty acids, each of the medium-chain fatty acids containing a chain of 6-12 carbon atoms; b) reacting the mixture of step (a) with a divalent or trivalent metal catalyst; and c) heating at a temperature of about 160 to about 180°C, under partial vacuum from 1 to 20 mm Hg, for a period of time sufficient to produce triglyceride.
EFFECT: method provides the possibility of producing final triglycerides in high yield and high purity, the method provides the possibility of forming triglycerides without a solvent.
