SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of medicine and diagnostics, specifically an oil-in-water emulsion for use as a contrast medium or a contrast enhancing substance, to a method of preparing said emulsion and to its use in a magnetic resonance imaging procedure. Disclosed oil-in-water emulsion comprises a) a fluorinated compound of formula: CF₃-(CF₂)_x-(CH₂)_y-(CH₃), where x is an integer from 1 to 8, y is an integer from 2 to 10; b) a medium-chain triglyceride which is miscible with said fluorinated compound at 20 °C; c) an emulsifier, wherein the weight ratio of components (a) and (b) is in the range of 1:20 to 1:0.20, respectively. Invention also relates to a method of performing magnetic resonance imaging and to a method for diagnosing pathological conditions using said emulsion.

EFFECT: group of inventions widens the range of hydrofluorocarbon-based diagnostic substances, which enable to image and diagnose specific pathological conditions and diseases.
