FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: system (300, 400) and test methods (500) of a low thrust jet engine (100) in vacuum medium. The methods include: placing the low jet thrust engine into a vacuum chamber which is at least partially grounded; removing at least one gas from the vacuum chamber to provide vacuum medium; starting the low thrust jet engine to create an electron beam; and/or electrically insulating the electron beam from at least one electroconductive surface of the vacuum chamber. Electrical insulation can be achieved by applying electric bias voltage to the beam by means of an electrode. The electrode can comprise an electrically conductive object located in the vacuum chamber, and/or at least a portion of vacuum chamber wall. In all cases the electrode is electrically insulated from that portion of the vacuum chamber which is grounded.
EFFECT: improved efficiency.
