FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing a cladding of the fuel elements (TVEL) of a nuclear reactor. The cladding has a substrate comprising an inner layer of zirconium coated or not coated with at least one intermediate layer. The method includes ion etching of the substrate surface; depositing the said at least one outer layer onto the substrate by a high-power pulse magnetron sputtering method (HiPIMS). The magnetron cathode consists of a protective material. There are also embodiments of forming a cladding of the nuclear reactor TVEL, applying the cladding to prevent hydration in a humid atmosphere and in a rich hydrogen atmosphere and in a rich hydrogen atmosphere optionally containing water.
EFFECT: improved resistance to oxidation or hydrogenation at very high temperatures.
