FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method for obtaining pigmentary rutile titanium dioxide comprises the treatment of hydrated titanium dioxide in the presence of a rutilizing additive. Amorphous titanium dioxide obtained by precipitating a solution of the fluoromammonium of the complex titanium salts is used, followed by drying the precipitate. The precipitate is dissolved in distilled water. Hydrochloric acid is added to the resulting suspension to pH=2. As a rutilizing additive, zinc oxide, or metallic zinc, or aluminium oxide, or metallic aluminium is introduced. Simultaneously, the solution is heated to a temperature of 40°C and stirred for not more than 3 hours. The unreacted metal is removed and a 25% solution of ammonia water is added to pH=8. The precipitate is separated from the solution, washed with distilled water, filtered and calcined at a temperature of 800-850°C for at least 5 hours.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the temperature of calcination of the product, to reduce the number of technological operations.
