FIELD: environmental protection.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for preventing leakage of filtrate in landfills of solid household waste that can prolong the time until the filtrate breaks down the walls of the landfill and the methods of manufacturing such systems. System includes a drainage layer to collect the filtrate, a first impermeable layer that is a geomembrane of PVD, a clay layer and a groundwater drainage layer that are sequentially stacked from the top down. Clay layer contains the lower clay layer, the middle clay layer and the upper clay layer, which are arranged in series. Middle clay layer is filled with fine-grained sand with particle sizes from 0.1 to 0.5 mm and a water content of not more than 3 %, so that the filtration coefficient of the sand layer varies from 1 × 10^-5 up to 1 × 10^-3 cm/s. Due to the indicated features, the time of destruction by the filtrate of the walls of the polygon can be significantly increased, by increasing the resistance of the impermeable layer. In this case, fine-grained sand is readily available, has a low cost and is widely distributed in China.

EFFECT: proposed system allows to extend the service life of the landfill, has a simple device and can effectively prevent groundwater from contamination due to the presence of a layer of fine-grained sand, maintaining this layer all the time in an unsaturated state.
