FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: blank is heated to a hot forming temperature which lies in the range from the temperature equal to one third of the incipient melting temperature of the non-magnetic alloy to the temperature equal to two-thirds of the mentioned melting temperature. The blank is forged on the press in open dies to obtain the required deformation in the cross section of the central zone of the blank. In addition, radial forging of the blank is performed to obtain the required deformation along the cross section of the surface zone. As a result, each of the deformations in the central and surface zones of the blank lies in the range from 0.3 inches per inch to 1 inch per inch. The deformation in the central zone differs from deformation in the surface zone by not more than 0.5 inches per inch. When processing the blank from non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel, it is heated to a temperature from 950 to 1150°F. When performing forging on the press in open dies, deformation is provided in the central zone of the blank, and when performing radial forging - in its surface zone.
EFFECT: obtaining a blank having constant mechanical characteristics in cross section.
