SUBSTANCE: according to the invention, the control device and the respective control method use filtering of a separate module in a number of power distribution controllers to obtain a power distribution command signal for a corresponding module from many different energy storage modules in a hybrid energy storage system. The hybrid energy storage system includes two or more types of energy storage modules. The power distribution command signal for each of the energy storage modules is obtained by filtering the input signal using a filter having a filter characteristic that is adapted to the energy storage characteristics of the energy storage module. The input signal reflects changes in the load on the electrical network and can be generated locally or provided by a remote node. Despite the fact that the power distribution control loops, used for each energy storage module, preferably can be the same in terms of architecture and implementation, each such loop uses adapted individual filtering and possibly customized values of one or more other control parameters, so each energy storage module is controlled so that its energy storage characteristics are complemented.
