SUBSTANCE: ligature anchor for fixation in the bone cavity contains one or more grooves on at least one of its outer surfaces and a shape memory polymer (SMP) capable of radial expansion upon activation so that the ligature anchor widens radially at least at a portion of its length. The groove(s) is sized to receive the ligature.
EFFECT: increased strength of fixation.
