FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to polyester resin-based container coating compositions. Described is a liquid coating composition for applying to the surface of a food or beverage container or part thereof that is substantially free of bisphenol A and its derivatives, wherein the coating composition comprises: (A) 70 to 90 weight percent of a hydroxyl functional polyester resin prepared from: (i) 1 to 8 mole percent of an alpha, beta-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid containing from 4 to 5 carbon atoms, (ii) 10 to 30 mole percent of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, including its lower alkyl esters, (iii) 10 to 30 mole percent of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid other than (ii), (iv) 40 to 60 mole percent of an aliphatic diol containing branched alkyl groups and (v) 0.2 to 4 mole percent of a triol, wherein the molar percentages are calculated based on the total moles for (i) to (v ); (B) 5 to 25 weight percent of an aminoplast curing agent and (C) 0.1 to 20 weight percent of a phosphated polyester, wherein (A), (B) and (C) are dissolved in an organic solvent, wherein the weight percentages of (A), (B) and (C) are obtained based on the weight of the solid substance of the resin in the coating composition. Also described is a coated article comprising: (a) a substrate and (b) a coating deposited thereon from said coating composition.

EFFECT: technical result is obtaining coating compositions characterised by improved hydrolytic stability under storage conditions at high humidity.
