METHOD OF DEVELOPING RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPES IN NUCLEAR REACTOR ON QUICK NEUTRONS Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC G21G1/00

Abstract RU 2645718 C2

FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method provides for the use of targets for developing radioisotopes placed in the irradiation assembly between the bushings, and bars made using a neutron-slowing material, wherein the irradiation assembly is placed in the side screen of a fast neutron nuclear reactor. Around the irradiation assembly, there are assemblies that do not contain nuclear fuel. Rapid neutrons are passed through the neutron-slowing material in the irradiation assembly and then the slowed-down neutrons are passed through the irradiated material (target) in the irradiation assembly. The radioisotope development is carried out simultaneously in the irradiation assembly and the assemblies surrounding it, in which the steel content does not exceed 50%. The targets of the irradiation assembly have an absorption cross section of more than 1 barn at a neutron energy of less than 0.1 MeV. The targets of the assemblies of the irradiation assembly environment have a neutron absorption cross section below 1 barn at a neutron energy of more than 0.1 MeV.

EFFECT: simplifying the treatment process improvement further builds developments of radionuclides due to the use additional radioactive isotopes for development using fast neutrons, while maintaining the correct function thermal neutron reactor volume, previously intended only for passive removal of thermal neutron reactor volume, previously intended only for passive removal of thermal neutrons, while maintaining the safety of the reactor on fast neutrons.
