SUBSTANCE: method provides for: splitting the contents of the screen into a plurality of coding units (CU). Each CU contains a square unit of pixels; selecting a colour palette table for the CU extracted from the pixels of the said CU. Distinct colours in the colour palette table are organized in accordance with the histogram or its actual colour intensity; creating a map of colour indexes, with indexes for the CU, using the selected colour palette table; and encoding the selected colour palette table and the colour index map for the CU in a stream of the binary data.
EFFECT: improving the encoding of the screen content.
