SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and apparatus for processing a current pixel block of an image using a palette prediction mode according to HEVC RExt. Technical result is achieved due to the fact that the mode uses the current palette in order to compose the index predictor unit in order to predict the current pixel block. Current palette contains records associating indexes of records with pixel values. Method comprises predicting current palette from records of two or more palettes, which are palettes previously used to process blocks of pixels. Palette predictor can be used, which is assembled from two or more palettes, preferably from palette used for last time for coding unit in current coding object and from previously used palette, for which bit flag map indicates whether its elements are copied or not used in past once a palette.

EFFECT: improved coding of a palette mode.
