FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of carbon electrodes in the form of anodes for the production of aluminium. Method comprises mixing a high melting pitch with a Softening Point Mettler (SPM) above 150°C with carbonaceous solids at a temperature 50-120°C above the SPM of the pitch, pressing or compacting by vibration or extrusion without intentional cooling at a temperature close to the mixing temperature, transferring the crude electrodes to a carbonisation furnace without intentional cooling, carbonising the crude electrodes.

EFFECT: reducing total energy consumption and residence time in the subsequent carbonisation step.
