FIELD: chemical and metallurgical industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves preparing pressed mass from ground calcined petroleum coke and coal-tar pitch having softening temperature of 65 C; mixing to complete homogenization at temperature exceeding doubled pitch softening temperature by 10-50 C. Pressed mass may be mixed in two stages: first stage involving conventional process and second stage carried out at above mentioned temperature. Method further involves cooling resultant mass; grinding; pressing blanks; roasting and graphitizing. After roasting, material has porosity substantially lower than that of material produced by conventional method. Volumetric density is at least 1.63 g/cu.cm, compression strength is at least 180 kg/sq.cm. Material has reduced amount of voids and cracks and may be used for manufacture of electrodes, cathodic and side blocks, construction materials for nuclear and electrothermal equipment, chemical and heat-exchanging devices.
