FIELD: technology of water and air purification.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the field of purification and disinfection of air and water, in particular to the photocatalyst element and to the method for manufacturing the photocatalytic element. Method for manufacturing the photocatalytic element includes sintering of the glass beads, modifying the surface of sintered glass beads and applying the powder of titanium dioxide to the modified surface of the sintered glass beads. Sintering of the glass beads is carried out at the temperature that is 5–20 °C higher than the temperature at the beginning of glass softening. Modification of the surface of the sintered glass beads is accomplished by complex chemical etching by means of sequential treatment of the surface of the beads with concentrated hydrofluoric acid for 1–5 minutes or with concentrated sulphuric acid for 1–5 minutes. Application of the titanium dioxide powder to the modified surface of the sintered glass beads is carried out from using the aqueous suspension having the pH=2.9±0.1. Photocatalytic element consists of the sintered glass beads, which have the open porosity with the pore size of 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm with the pore volume fraction from 20 % to 40 %, and the surface of the sintered glass beads has the relief shape with the relief depth from 0.5 mcm to 10 mcm.

EFFECT: new photocatalytic element has increased mechanical strength, catalytic activity and service life.
