FIELD: analytical chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry, namely to gas chromatographic determination of formaldehyde content in air of working area, premises of residential and public buildings, atmospheric air of populated areas, and can be used in work of Rospotrebnadzor Administration (Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare) for assessing environmental pollution, indoor air quality. Claimed method for quantitative determination of formaldehyde in air, which consists in that air samples are taken into absorption vessels filled with solution of acetylacetone and ammonium acetate, reaction yields 3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydro-2,6-lutidine and, that formed reaction product is recovered by mixture of chloroform and ethyl alcohol in ratio of 4:1, respectively; separated, evaporated to dryness with chloroform-alcohol layer, dry residue is dissolved in ethyl alcohol for chromatography, analyzing resulting solution by gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection; quantitative content of formaldehyde on the calibration curve is calculated.

EFFECT: technical result is increase in sensitivity and reproducibility of method for quantitative determination of formaldehyde.
