FIELD: analytical chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method for quantitative determination of content of sodium acetate in air of working area by method of capillary gas chromatography by indirect method by its preliminary conversion into acetic acid, and then into methyl ester of acetic acid, extraction of the reaction product and subsequent analysis using a calibration curve; air sampling is carried out using an automatic aspirator; filter with the collected air sample is placed into a test tube, distilled water is poured and a sodium acetate solution is obtained; obtained aqueous solution is dried; sulfuric acid solution is added to the dried solution of the collected air sample; mixture is thermostated and then left to cool completely; a hexane-ether mixture is added to the cooled solution, shaken, sodium chloride solution is added, kept in a refrigerating chamber and the upper layer of the extract is separated; after the chromatograph reaches the operating mode, the obtained extract is introduced into the evaporation chamber and analysis is carried out using a capillary column with a high-polarity stationary phase; mass concentration of sodium acetate in air of the working area is calculated as an arithmetic average of two parallel measurements.

EFFECT: invention enables to determine concentration of sodium acetate in air of the working area in the range of concentrations of 2–50 mg/m3, which corresponds to range of 0.2–5 MPC.
